Picidae is a stripped down duo which deliver low‐key magic tones. The duo consists of Sigrun Tara Øverland on vocals, lyre, autoharp and guitars, and Eirik Dørsdal on trumpet, electronics, kalimba and vocals. Picidaes distinctive character can be found in the special sound combinations: the original instrument lyre and other stringed instruments are combined with a trumpet that is taken apart and put back together in unexpected ways, as well as synths and other electronics. Picidae works within a style of music that draws inspiration from both jazz and singer-songwriter, but the music also has elements of pop and folk/world. In 2016 Picidae released their debut album "It's Another World" on Karl Seglem's record company NYE NOR (formerly NORCD). The album was recorded in Morten Martens' (Thom Hell, Hanne Kolstø) studio The Lodge. The record has received great reviews and was included in The Europe Jazz Media Chart for October 2016. In the spring of 2017, the album was launched in the Benelux, also here to good reviews. Picidae has also previously released the EP, "yesmakemedream" which was produced by Even Ormestad and Audun Borrman (Hanne Hukkelberg, Marit Larsen and Susanna & the Magical Orchestra). In 2023 Picidae are releasing a new album. The first single from our new album came out in November to good feedback and numbers, the next single is due the 3rd of February and the album itself the 3rd of March. Picidae have played concerts in Norway, Sweden and Italy in unique places such as mausoleums, old factories and bunkers, as well as galleries, churches, festivals and clubs. The duo has also been on four Japan tours.
